Got an iPad? Check out a new site Foldi just launched at ipadpixels.com. You’ll find a small collection of interactive animations that use the iPad’s touch screen as input.

Visit ipadpixels.com on your iPad

Like thisisnotflash.com, the animations are driven using web standard Javascript and CSS2…no Flash, HTML5, Java, CSS3, etc..

I’ll be adding more animations…so please visit the Foldi blog or follow Foldi on Twitter for updates.

If you have any questions or comments, please add them below.

Foldi is happy to announce the launch of thisisnotflash.com, a web experiment meant to deliver animated pixels to web-connected mobile devices….even the Flash-restricted ones.

In May, 2000 I entered the 5K Contest, a competition to build a great web site in under 5K. Thinking that an entry with animation would surely stand out, I submitted this lame-ass MTA subway map. It only worked in Netscape Communicator 4.2 and IE5 and was completed while listening to Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” and nursing yet another launch party hangover.

Ten years later after purchasing an iPhone, the idea of creating animation in a browser using only web standard techniques came back to me. Staring at that little screen, it seemed that a combination of HTML, Javascript and CSS could surely get some pixels swimming around. After a little experimentation, I packaged up some demos and launched them on thisisnotflash.com.

You can link there now….or better yet, if you’re using an iPhone or a phone with the Android OS, check it out in your device’s browser. The code driving the demos uses current web standard HTML, Javascript and CSS….no Flash, HTML5, Java, CSS3, etc..

I’m currently working on enhancing the code and will post more demos along the way…so meanwhile, feel free to leave any comments below.

What’s in your wallet?

Foldi recently designed and developed getrapturecertified.com, a website for satirical writer Billy Beam where you can pre-order your very own Rapture Card. Why would you need a Rapture Card? Well, I bet Captain Jean-Luc Picard wished he had one in 1994.

The site was built using CakePHP for the quiz and card ‘validation’. The front-end used jParallax and jQuery for the floating card effect. Get yours today!

Do I Look Familiar?

I recently launched a site called doilookfamiliar.com as a simple imaging experiment. The idea is to extract every pixel from a bitmapped image and render it as div with a matching background color. Once extracted, jQuery can rearranges the divs. Add jParallax and you get some really interesting results. Give it a try.

Foldi launches AliBooks.com

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Today Foldi launched AliBooks.com, a site offering custom photo books and photo archiving services. Along with the site design and build, Foldi developed a gift card program for AliBooks.com that included an activation and redemption system to be managed by AliBooks staff.

As a small business looking to grow, AliBooks wanted to take advantage of the new revenue opportunities gift card programs can deliver. However, going to one of the corporate gift card providers was not an option. Leveraging expertise in web development as well as commercial product and packaging design, Foldi was able to build out a program that fit AliBooks’ budget. The project took two months from start to finish and has already generated pre-order sales.

The site was built using a combination of PHP/MySQL/JQuery and AJAX. Along with the front-end development, Foldi developed a full featured admin system allowing AliBooks staff to update content, view stats and manage gift card orders and activations.
